This picture book was created together with writer Park Bo-ram, with whom I’ve collaborated on many books over the years. When she brought me this fun story about the love–hate relationship between two brothers, I was delighted — especially since I’m also raising two boys myself.
Like my other picture books, this one is full of hidden Easter eggs that make it fun to look at again and again. Even the side characters have their own little stories to tell — that’s one of the things I enjoy most about my work.
Of course, the main characters drive the big story forward, leading to not just one but two explosive climaxes. I layered the paint to create a rich texture and paid close attention to their facial expressions. I also put a lot of care into depicting a bright, cheerful city — a place that feels perfect for children to play in.
