	I live in Mullumbimby, Australia, raising two children while working as an illustrator. I create commercial illustrations for picture books, produce animations, and hold exhibitions of my personal works that reflect my own life.

	M I S T A K E series captures the first time we realize a mistake might need correction. I still find myself caught between a life full of errors and a life lived in constant fear of making one. &#38;nbsp;Most of these are painted in acrylic on small canvases (10x10x4 cm) with a thick varnish finish.

	Painting is what I love most. I enjoy choosing one theme and creating a series by exploring many variations of it. Sketching is fun, and the moment I begin a painting is my favorite part. Finishing and meeting deadlines can be hard and sometimes tedious, but when I finally feel that ‘It’s done!’, I hang it on the wall and start admiring it for a long time — and the more I look at it, the more I like it.&#38;nbsp;
I guess I’m quite generous with myself in painting :)

	Working as a picture book illustrator is truly enjoyable. When I find a manuscript I connect with, I get so happy at the thought of illustrating it beautifully. I love the process of sketching, imagining the characters, and building the world within.

It's not easy to capture it exactly as I imagined, but it's still fun. Sometimes, I receive revision requests from editors and designers that are hard to accept. But most of the time, after the book is published and I look back, the revised parts are actually better. I feel a little embarrassed when that happens.&#38;nbsp;That's why I like them.

In the past, I used to work with the intention of making a single picture book an artistic masterpiece. Now, I like balancing my artistic soul and the deadline, and I even wonder if that balance itself might be art.

I think I need that kind of work regularly. The world seems to be getting flashier and flashier. I'm a little the opposite, though.

It's really wonderful when the pictures I draw move softly and try to communicate something more actively. It's even better when they are drawn by hand. I think hand-drawn animation that has that human touch is the best. It's like real food, not something mass-produced by a machine in a factory, you know?

Animation truly requires intense focus to create. When I've drawn for a long time and only managed to create 1 or 2 seconds, and then those pieces gather to become dozens of seconds or even a few minutes, I feel genuinely happy. I think this is a primal sense of joy. That must be why viewers like it too.

I draw whenever something comes to mind. When an image pops up in my head, I make a quick sketch — then, someday, I pull it out and paint it all at once.

While raising my children, I would pick up a small canvas whenever I found a bit of time and quietly paint little by little. Eventually, I held an exhibition at HOUSEGALLERY2303 in Seoul&#38;nbsp;
I was fortunate that most of the paintings sold — but even after selling them, I didn’t want to let them go. I’d stare at each one for a long while before finally packing it up and sending it off, feeling a little melancholy.

One day, I was watching the news on television. It was snowing heavily in the middle of bustling Seoul, and a reporter was conducting a survey about Christmas. On the streets, young couples were hugging, and people were sticking their thoughts onto a survey board with colorful stickers. That scene stayed with me.


To me, a hug has always been something I long for, yet hesitate to give — an act that feels like a small kind of yearning or absence, held back by the fear of burdening someone else. When I paint WE HUG series and the image comes together beautifully, I feel a sense of calm — a peace that requires no one’s permission or understanding.
